Now it has come to a point where portable units have moved beyond your functional clunky beige contraption to something that has been designed to subtly blend into the surroundings. After deciding between this and a Delonghi (yes, I've finally arrived now that I can afford high-end appliances!) I decided to go with the more compact unit that was at a more affordable price point. I've been using this for about a month now and have been completely satisfied with nearly all aspects. One little gripe that I have, is the absence of handles on the side, it definitely is heavy too. It does however churn out very very cold air, look extremely slick and is a snap to use. The remote control has a myriad of functions that I will eventually use one day but for now, I just need the icey relief from a hot spring day. 21 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Nicely designed and works like a champ. By Luke Raft I absolutely adore the low profile design of this unit. It is very unobtrusive and compact. Don't let that fool you though, it cools like nothing else. The price and brand are definitely on the high end but so far it's earned every bit of it in my books. Here's a little trick that I use that actually saves me a small fortune in utility bills. I live and work in my apartment. I purchased 3 extra sets of window kits and basically installed them in the bedroom, study/den, living room and dining room windows. Once I wake up, all I do is unhook the unit, pull it to the next room with that very handy hidden pull cord and presto, hook it up and presto I'm all set for the next several hrs. Rinse and repeat as needed. Portable units are a great way to save over central air and this Whynter unit makes it very easy to do so. Not good for very humid weather By Confused I ordered this unit thinking it was what I wanted for my upstairs bedroom because I wouldn't have to give up one of the two windows and then could move it to the extra room while sewing. I live in MA and it worked fine the end of June, beginning of July. It cooled the room in no time at all. We then had a cold spell and didn't use it til August when it became brutally humid. I woke up after 2 hours of use and it shut itself down. Found out that the reservoir filled up. I drained it (which isn't easy since the drainage hole is very close to the floor) it turned on by itself and then in 2 more hours did the same thing. I contacted the company.This is what they said: "Thank you for your purchase of the Whynter SNO ARC-13W portable air conditioner. Can you please put a pan under the drain plug of the air conditioner and remove the drain plug at the back of the unit? Once all water is drained out, the air conditioner should come on automatically.Please make sure that the exhaust hose is not blocked or bent and able to vent the hot air with moisture to the outside. It is common that the unit is not able to exhaust the moisture collected if your room temperature is low or if the outside is raining or extremely humid. Also, sometimes when you first start running an air conditioner, the self evaporating system may not function in full capacity.Also, you may want to set up the air conditioner to have continuous drainage by inserting a drain hose to the drain spout if you live in a humid location."In order to put a pan under it, I had to elevate it on blocks. The pan filled up every three hours so I had to set my alarm to empty the pan.The company offered a drainage hose but because it doesn't have the capability of pushing out the water, I would have

Kumar The fan is a very basic model.Pros- Easy to install and comes with a side panel to block the window opening- Cheap- Can be used for venting as well as getting air inCons- A little noisy for the air that it pushes through (relatively low CFM for the noise level)- Twin fans cannot be controlled independently- Venting or getting air in is controlled manually by reversing the fan. 47 of 49 people found the following review helpful. Not bad for a $16.60 fan! By Gary H I bought this fan at Walmart. In fact, I bought two window fans because I didn't think this fan would be worthy. I got home that night around 11:45pm. It was 81 degrees in the house, but outside it was nice and cool. I set it up and it really pulled the cold air in. The temp dropped to 73 with the fan on. Nice.My windows are new casement type windows and this one fits perfectly. It has a extension that will make it longer and at the other end, there is a pull out extension that will make it even longer.I'm returing the other one which is a HAWF2026 - it just doesn't have the extra extension and the adjustable one (doesn't have any of them).I really wished they put a more powerful motor in these, but for the price it's not bad. If there is a more powerful one I'll buy it. I'll give it a 4 star because it's not powerful enough, but it works great!BTW, I do have AC in the house, but why use AC when the outside air is chilly already! 28 of 28 people found the following review helpful. MY HOME EXHAUST FAN By Eugene Flores I bought this thinking that it can be used as an exhaust fan for my kitchen. I don't like the smell of food inside the house so I gave this a try. It has two fan settings which in my opinion is a good option. Operational sound is quite loud but it works pretty well by circulating the air in the kitchen and removing that awful smelling fumes. By Arachkid I ordered this unit from Amazon during the two week plus heat wave here in southern California when it remained at over 110 degrees during the day and 85 degrees at night. During this time our old 10,000 BTU Sears unit died and you couldn't buy, beg, borrow or steal a suitable replacement in SoCal. When we received this Frigidaire, I immediately installed it and ran it nonstop for almost two weeks. The installation was easy and the Frigidaire easily outperformed the Sears on its best day. The continually variable fan speed which resets as needed during the "auto cool" setting is really effective at cooling a room.Probably the best feature of this a/c, besides its outstanding performance, is its compact size. We live in an ancient house and only have 21 3/8 inches of window opening space. The Frigidaire is only 19 1/8 inches wide, an inch less than the 10,000 BTU Sears a/c it replaced. I am aware that there are "casement" style a/c units available for narrow window openings. Unfortunately, after extensive investigation of these units, it seems that they are less fully featured than the non casement a/c units.If this Frigidaire is ever available on Amazon again, I'll buy a spare. It is compact and fits easily in most standard windows. It's electronic controls offer many refinements/conveniences which your old a/c does not. It is also much more efficient than your old a/c, and the electronic controls make operating it efficiently simple and straight-forward. It is meant to cool 650+ sq. ft. It is easily up to that task, and in fact does a pretty good job of keeping my entire 1300+ sq. ft. house comfortable. As such, it is not a good choice as a bedroom unit, unless you have an enormous bedroom. Although it is no noisier than competitive units of the same capacity, the compressor and blower do produce some noise and you would not want this unit 6 feet from your ear when trying to sleep at night. That said, I have it in a hall window about 10 feet from my 3 bedrooms, and the noise level is very reasonable and acceptable. The blower is electronic and continuously adjustable, which helps quite a bit.The construction of this unit is no less robust than most other modern a/c's, with the possible exception of the top-end brands costing twice as much. The case is all metal. The vents and vent covers are plastic and need to be handled with normal care, but they are not especially delicate. The switches seem robust. All the functions can be very conveniently controlled via remote. The remote "beep" which confirms operation is not particularly loud and not being able to turn it off is not a problem. The vents offer slightly less control of the airflow than the unit this replaced, but the difference is minor and of no real consequence.The window mounting is achieved with conventional accordion "wings" which are easily installed, and if need be, replaced. Again, they are no less robust than competitive units and if used with normal care and common sense, will likely hold up as well as any of this type of equipment does. There are a/c's which are designed to use a "sleeve" mount, which in my opinion is more of a pain than a convenience.This unit is inexpensive in comparison to the competition, and is just as well constructed as most and has the same features. It cost me about 20% less than the next lowest priced unit (a Kenmore) and 25%+ less than anything I could find at the big-box home-repair stores. I cannot say if it will live as long; I'll report
